First Solar is expanding its American solar manufacturing footprint into the heart of Acadiana in Iberia Parish with a new advanced manufacturing facility, which is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2026. The new facility will use First Solar’s proprietary process to transform sheets of glass into fully functioning solar panels - capable of generating clean electricity from sunlight - in approximately four-and-a-half hours.
Arizona-headquartered First Solar is unique among the world's largest solar manufacturers for being the only US-headquartered company and for not manufacturing in China. It is also unique for the fact that its US factories rely on a largely American supply chain, with its modules being produced with American glass and steel.
The company produces a uniquely American thin film solar technology and already operates three manufacturing facilities in Ohio, and currently employs approximately 2,500 people across the country. Its Acadiana facility will be its fifth in the US, and the company expects to commission its fourth manufacturing facility, located in Alabama, in 2024.
