Manufacturing
SLB’s new manufacturing facility in Caddo Parish is set to begin production in 2024 and the company is in the midst of multiple rounds of hiring new team members for a wide variety of positions.
SLB is a global technology company that drives energy innovation for a balanced planet. With a global footprint in more than 100 countries, SLB works each day on innovating oil and gas, delivering digital at scale, decarbonizing industries, and developing and scaling new energy systems that accelerate the energy transition. The company’s new manufacturing facility is located in the former General Motors assembly plant in Shreveport, which has been vacant since 2012. This high-volume manufacturing, assembly, and test facility will produce components that SLB’s clients will use in building their Digital Infrastructure, which will be delivered for installation and commissioning at their sites across the USA. SLB’s $18.5 million investment is expected to create 596 new direct jobs with an annual payroll of more than $50 million over the next three years.
“We are stepping into a new industry with a significant upside and hiring a large number of employees to help us pave the way for continued growth,” said Kevin Carlson, SLB Center Manager. “Operations will begin in early 2024, but we are currently investing in the facility and product line, and training our new team members. Right now, SLB is looking for a core team to build the foundation for the future.”
SLB has a wide variety of positions still available for its manufacturing facility. The company is seeking assembly and test operators, welders, fabricators, QC technicians, and those in material handling, and supply chain roles. There are also limited positions still available for warehouse management and maintenance technicians.
“We are looking for energetic team members who are willing to learn something new and gain skills in a rapidly growing business sector that will only continue to grow as the world continues to generate more data on a daily basis,” said Carlson. “A high level of engagement and communication is very important. We want people who can speak up and provide feedback as we develop the proper processes and procedures that will help us be successful in delivering these new products.”
The former GM plant meant a great deal to the people of northwest Louisiana and SLB bringing it back into commerce with new manufacturing jobs in a new sector is a historic milestone for economic growth, diversification, and job creation. SLB’s investment breathes new life into Shreveport’s once-thriving business park and provides hundreds of new, high-paying jobs for Louisiana’s skilled manufacturing workers.
“We soon realized how important the GM plant and this campus was to the region and that so many people had worked there in the past or knew someone who had,” said Carlson. “The community was very excited about getting it back up and running and that has translated into a groundswell of support. We are very pleased with our choice of Shreveport for this venture and are impressed with the local talent and the quality of candidates we’ve been able to interview and hire.”
